Fiddling Femmes ~ Group Lessons for Women
Berkshire Strings Studio began as the Fiddling Femmes; traditional fiddle lessons for contemporary women. From this joyous start, we’ve grown together in skill and in camaraderie. These women are at the heart of Berkshire Strings, a place for all musicians to find instruction and inspiration.
We began in local living rooms and now have classes in two locations, at the Studio in North Egremont, and at Dewey Hall in Sheffield, MA. This website hosts the class schedule, event postings and resources for all current students.
"At the heart of the Berkshire Strings community and my mission of 'Instruction and Inspiration' is a group of women, the Fiddling Femmes. Together we learn traditional fiddle music, strive to become expressive on our instruments, and enjoy supporting the endeavors of all musicians."
- Erika Ludwig
The founder of the Fiddling Femmes, Erika Ludwig, is a teacher dedicated to the growth of a musical community. This has meant cultivating a common repertoire, offering a variety of classes and groups along with private lessons, and designing opportunities for local musicians to share their passions, their knowledge and stories with one another.
The Fiddling Femmes welcomes musicians of all origins and orientations. We strive to be inclusive and accepting in our attitudes towards one another as an example of fellowship between all peoples.
The Fiddling Femmes also welcomes banjo and accordion players.
